At Holy Cross and All Saints Primary School, we use a multisensory, play based learning approach to embed meaning and to aid recall of multiplication facts. From Year 1 – 6, we use FunKey Maths Times Tables cards which help children to develop conceptual understanding of multiplication and division and fluency in times table recall up to 12 x 12 through fun games and activities.
We use a consistent approach when teaching times tables, starting with developing basic conceptual understanding of multiplication and division and moving on to recall of multiplication facts and related division facts.

Year 4 Multiplication Check
What is the Multiplication tables check?
It is an on-screen check consisting of 25 times table questions. Your child will be able to answer 3
practice questions before taking the actual check. They will then have 6 seconds to answer each
question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.
The reason behind the Government Multiplication Check:
The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. This will prepare your child for the Year 5 and 6 Maths curriculum which heavily depends on their times tables knowledge.
There are lots of different ways for your child to practise.
