Computing

“Computers themselves, and software yet to be developed, will
revolutionise the way we learn.”
Steve Jobs
💻 Computing Curriculum Intent

At Holy Cross and All Saints RC Primary School our Computing curriculum empowers pupils to become confident, creative, and responsible digital citizens. In an increasingly digital world, we believe that computing is not just a subject—it’s a vital life skill that opens doors to innovation, communication, and problem-solving.

Our intent is to:

  • Build Digital Literacy: Equip children with the essential skills to use technology safely, effectively, and responsibly in everyday life.

  • Develop Computational Thinking: Teach pupils to solve problems logically, break tasks into manageable steps, and understand how systems work.

  • Introduce Programming Concepts: Provide hands-on experience with coding and algorithms, encouraging creativity and resilience through trial and error.

  • Promote Online Safety: Ensure children understand how to stay safe online, make informed choices, and recognise risks in digital environments.

  • Encourage Creativity and Collaboration: Use digital tools to support imaginative projects, teamwork, and cross-curricular learning.

From exploring simple algorithms in Key Stage 1 to designing interactive programs in Key Stage 2, our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and confidence. We aim for every child to leave primary school with a strong foundation in computing, ready to thrive in a digitally connected world.

🛜Teaching Internet Safety

Through our PSHE and Computing curriculum and events such as Internet Safety Day, we strive to equip our pupils with age-appropriate knowledge and skills needed to make the best use of the internet and technology in a safe, considered and respectful way.

Children learn how to:

  • Recognise online risks and respond safely
  • Understand the importance of privacy and digital footprints

  • Communicate respectfully and responsibly online

  • Spot misinformation and know when to ask for help
