🎶 Music Curriculum Intent

At Holy Cross and All Saints' RC Primary School, our Music curriculum is designed to nurture a lifelong love of music by engaging pupils in joyful, meaningful, and inclusive musical experiences. We believe that music is a universal language that connects, inspires, and empowers children of all backgrounds and abilities.

Our intent is to:

• Foster Musical Confidence: Encourage every child to explore their voice, instruments, and movement with enthusiasm and self-belief.

• Develop Key Skills: Build pupils’ understanding of rhythm, pitch, dynamics, and notation through active listening, performing, and composing.

• Celebrate Diversity: Introduce children to a wide range of musical genres, traditions, and cultures, promoting respect and curiosity for global music heritage.

• Support Emotional Wellbeing: Use music as a tool for self-expression, collaboration, and emotional development, helping children connect with themselves and others.

• Encourage Creativity and Performance: Provide opportunities for pupils to create, improvise, and perform music in solo and group settings, both in school and the wider community.

From singing in assemblies to exploring digital composition tools, our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progression in musical knowledge and skills. We aim for every child to leave primary school with a strong musical foundation, a sense of rhythm and creativity, and the joy of making music together.
