Our Curriculum

  • At Holy Cross and All Saints Roman Catholic Primary School our mission is to;
  • "Educate all children in order for them to grow and reach their full potential as fulfilled people in Christ."
  • We aim, each and every day, to instil in our children, ‘a love of Jesus , a love of learning and a love of life itself.’ Inspired by the attitudes and values of the Saints, our learning powers are embedded within in all aspects of school life, including policies, procedures and a broad, balanced, curriculum: equipping children with a positive mindset and the skills needed to "have life and have it to the full." John 10:10
  • We recognise that our curriculum must be broad and balanced in order to offer pupils’ opportunities to grow as individuals as well as learners and to nurture their talents and find their ‘definite purpose.’ In addition to National Curriculum aims and objectives, Gospel values and the teachings of Jesus Christ underpin everything we do at Holy Cross and All Saints. Our curriculum has been designed with the fundamental principle that the more our children understand the world, its history, and their place within it as human beings, the better equipped they will be to live out their faith, with hope in God, one another and themselves.

Our Curriculum design is rooted in these aims and principles;

  • Meeting national requirements through innovative and engaging teaching
  • Raising aspirations through expectations and experience
  • Meeting the needs of all learners
  • Developing the 'whole' child
  • Knowledge of our locality and context
  • Local, National and Global Citizenship
  • Our curriculum aims to challenge all learners, encouraging them to learn from their failures and celebrate their successes; developing in them the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life.
  • Curriculum Implementation
  • First and foremost, the curriculum will be implemented through highly effective, quality first teaching and creative classroom practice which will immerse our children in ‘deep learning’: embedding subject-specific knowledge whilst promoting valuable life skills such as; working well with others, social communication skills, critical thinking and problem-solving. Planning and teaching will reflect the different learning styles and needs of all pupils, and tasks and activities within lessons will build on previous learning, providing challenge and building high levels of independence, self-esteem and resilience. Children may be given small group or one-to-one tuition with teaching assistants and external support agencies, where it is deemed necessary for them to receive additional support in order for them to meet their personal targets and achieve their potential, and we also implement a number of educational interventions across the school to accelerate progress in speech and language, reading, writing and mathematics. We want all our children to be confident, motivated, inquisitive learners, who experience a wide range of learning experiences within a supportive and inclusive environment. We enrich our curriculum by providing a variety of on and off-site learning experiences including; retreats and residentials, school trips, external links with the wider school community, visitors, themed days and other activities as outlined in our curriculum and enrichment overviews. These experiences are reflected in our curriculum pledge to the children:

  • Our curriculum aspires to provide opportunities for physical and personal development at every opportunity, across all subjects and all learning experiences. Through curriculum subjects, topics, themes and texts used, we promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, encouraging them to ask big questions, become model citizens and lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives. We engage with the wider community by giving pupils opportunities to participate in and contribute to local parish and community projects, and we develop Global Citizenship and stewardship by supporting the work of global charities such as CAFOD and Action Aid. Our school values the input of its pupils, parents, governors and all members of the wider school community with regard to the planning and delivery of the curriculum. We recognise that parents are the principal educators of their children and that our pupils receive a more well-rounded education when everyone in the school community is involved in shaping it.
