At Holy Cross and All Saints, we take our name very seriously and ensure that learning about the saints is woven throughout the year. We celebrate special feast days, explore the lives of inspiring saints, and reflect on how their example helps us to live out our faith today. Each department in school is assigned two saints, and together these eight saints form the foundation of our Learning Powers. Every saint is linked to a piece of scripture that guides and inspires the children, and classes mark their saints’ feast days with prayer, activities, and celebration. Through this, pupils come to understand that the saints are real role models who help us grow in faith, character, and learning.
The Saints are as follows:
EYFS - Jesus and Joseph the Worker
KS1 - St Cecilia and St Peter
LKS2 - St Francis and St Catherine
UKS2 - St Anthony and St Jude
We also celebrate All Saints’ Day each year in a variety of meaningful ways. Our children visit All Saints’ Friary in Eccles, where the friars host Mass for us and lead engaging workshops to help pupils learn more about the saints. Staff also receive CPD at the Friary, deepening their own understanding so they can confidently teach and share the stories of the saints with the children.
