🧪 Science Curriculum Intent

At our school, we aim to ignite a lifelong passion for science by nurturing curiosity, deepening understanding, and empowering children to explore the world around them. We strive to;

1. Foster Curiosity and Wonder

  • Encourage children to ask questions, investigate ideas, and develop a sense of awe about the natural world.

  • Create opportunities for hands-on exploration and discovery.

2. Build Strong Scientific Knowledge

  • Ensure pupils develop secure understanding of key concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics.

  • Sequence learning to build on prior knowledge and deepen understanding over time.

3. Develop Scientific Enquiry Skills

  • Teach children to observe, predict, experiment, and evaluate through practical investigations.

  • Promote critical thinking and resilience when exploring scientific questions.

4. Make Science Relevant and Inclusive

  • Connect science learning to real-life contexts, careers, and global issues.

  • Ensure all pupils, regardless of background or ability, can access and enjoy science.

5. Celebrate Diversity in Science

  • Highlight contributions from scientists of different cultures, genders, and backgrounds.

  • Inspire children to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, and innovators.

6. Support Progression and Retention

  • Use assessment and retrieval strategies to help children retain key knowledge.

  • Prepare pupils for the transition to secondary science with confidence and curiosity.
