🏛️ History Curriculum Intent

At Holy Cross and All Saints RC Primary School our History curriculum aims to ignite curiosity, deepen understanding, and foster a lifelong interest in the past. We believe that history is not just about dates and facts—it’s about stories, people, and the forces that have shaped our world.

Our intent is to:

• Build Chronological Understanding: Help children develop a clear sense of time, sequencing events and recognising how the past influences the present.

• Explore Diverse Perspectives: Introduce pupils to a wide range of historical figures, cultures, and events, ensuring representation and inclusivity across time periods and societies.

• Develop Critical Thinking: Encourage children to ask questions, weigh evidence, and consider different interpretations of historical events.

• Make Connections: Link historical learning to pupils’ own lives, local heritage, and global contexts, helping them see history as relevant and meaningful.

• Inspire Curiosity and Empathy: Foster a sense of wonder about the past and empathy for people from different times and places.

Through engaging topics—from ancient civilisations and significant monarchs to local history and world-changing movements—children learn to appreciate the complexity of human experience. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills progressively, preparing pupils to become thoughtful, informed citizens of the future.
