Nursery 2021- 2022

Welcome to our school!

We are delighted that your child will be joining us at Holy Cross and all Saints RC Primary School this coming September. It gives us great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community.

We hope that the information on this page will answer many of the questions that you have about your child starting Nursery with us in September and assure you that we will be contacting you in the coming weeks with further details about your child's induction.

On this page you will find ideas and activities to help prepare us all for September. Please remember that the children learn through play and it should be fun! Do what is manageable as the activities are not compulsory! Please have a look at the important documents section which can be found lower down the page.

What will you be reading today?

Reading - Commotion in the Ocean

Can you tell a grown-up any sea creatures you can think of?

Listen to this story about lots of different creatures that live in or near the sea.

Please check your child's understanding of the words 'commotion' and 'ocean'.

As you watch the story please listen out for rhyming words and listen to the descriptions of the animals.

  • Which animals are hiding in the ocean?
  • Which sea creature is your favourite? Why do you like it?

Sharing Books

Please try to share books with your child so that they can build their vocabulary and develop a love of reading.

It's also important that you check their understanding of stories you read by asking questions and asking your child to retell the story in their own words.

If you are reading a rhyming book ask your child to suggest other rhyming words as you read.

Here are some suggestions of books we love:

Making playdough

Playdough is great for strengthening muscle tone in little hands! Use the below recipe to make and play with your own playdough.

Playdough recipe;

  • 3 cups of flour

  • 3 cups of water

  • 1 cup of salt

  • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar

  • 2 tablespoon oil

  • A few drops of food colouring

Stir together – heat in microwave or on hob in pan until sticking together. Stir regularly. When cool if the playdough is too sticky knead in extra flour. Keep in a sealed container for a few weeks.

Maths games

Here are some online games you could play with your child:

We have told you lots about our school, now we would like to find out about you! We would really appreciate it if you could complete the above sheets with your child. This will help Miss Langford to support your child even further. This can be emailed or sent to the school office:
