We are delighted that your child will be joining us at Holy Cross and all Saints RC Primary School this coming September. It gives us great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community or to welcome you back if your child attended our Nursery.
We hope that the information on this page will answer many of the questions that you have about your child starting school with us in September and assure you that we will be contacting you in the coming weeks with further details about your child's induction.
On this page you will find ideas and activities to help prepare us all for September. Please remember that the children learn through play and it should be fun! Do what is manageable as the activities are not compulsory! Please have a look at the important documents section which can be found lower down the page.
With your child please read or watch the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle.
Before the story give your child the opportunity to make predictions by asking;
Where do you think butterflies come from?
Have you ever seen a caterpillar or touched a caterpillar?
What do you think will happen at the end of the story?
What characters might there be in the story?
After the story please ask your child some of the following questions to check their understanding;
What did the very hungry caterpillar eat on Monday?
How many oranges did he eat?
Why do you think he had a stomachache?
What made the caterpillar feel all better?
Below is a link to Rodd’s new number line game involves counting along the 1-20 number line and roaring like a lion when you come to a ‘missing’ number.
Playdough is great for strengthening muscle tone in little hands! Use the below recipe to make and play with your own playdough.
3 cups of flour
3 cups of water
1 cup of salt
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
2 tablespoon oil
A few drops of food colouring
Stir together – heat in microwave or on hob in pan until sticking together. Stir regularly. When cool if the playdough is too sticky knead in extra flour. Keep in a sealed container for a few weeks.
