Dear Parents,

Welcome to our WONDERFUL Reception! Our team consists of Mrs Wilson, Mrs Wadsworth, Miss Blackett, Miss O’Dowd and myself, throughout the year we will be working extremely hard to ensure your child reaches their full potential. This is a time for new beginnings, making friends, and learning lots of new & exciting things each and every day. Our days will be filled with lots of wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing. We aim to build upon the groundwork your child has already experienced at home and in Nursery. Our underpinning focus will be to enhance your child’s Personal, Social and Emotional skills, to ensure they feel confident and do not hesitate to express themselves. We will challenge your child to think critically and to find their own solutions. Our slogans are ‘It’s good to talk’, ‘I am wonderful’ and ‘I can’t do it yet’ these will be embedded each day in Reception, so when your child tells you they are wonderful, all you have to say is ‘Oh yes you are!’ If they say they can’t do it, you say “You can’t do it yet.”

Our aim is for your child to share their feelings, experiences and thoughts with us. Ensuring a smooth transition from home to school is of the utmost importance and we are extremely proud of the way all Reception children have settled into their new routine this week, it has been a privilege to witness the kindness they have shared and the new friendships they are beginning to form.

During your child’s time in Reception, we will continually assess and record his/her progress and achievements. We use an educational software called 2Simple to record your child’s learning journey which will include photos, comments and observations. Each half term we will share this with you using your registered email address.

We want to ensure your child continues to flourish into the best little person they can be. To help secure subject understanding we will be sending you a maths link every Monday and a writing link each Wednesday. This is not compulsory, it will be a fun activity to share with your child if you have the time. In addition to this your child will be given a creative learning log homework every Friday which will need to be completed and returned no later than the following Wednesday and a reading book to read with you at home. Reading days vary, your child’s will be explained in their folder.

To encourage critical, independent thinking, we are rewarding children through our school Dojo system, which you should have already registered for (if you haven’t, please do so at your earliest convenience), you will be alerted of their achievements as and when they receive them. Our class Dojo challenge system will run alongside this, from piloting it last year we found it is a fun way to motivate learning and to encourage children to access learning activities independently.

We will keep you updated about your child’s learning in Reception through our weekly newsletter which will be emailed every Friday. It will also highlight the following weeks VIP’s. In addition to this we are operating a Secret Reader scheme, next week you will be able to select a date that suits you to come in secretly and read your child’s favourite book to their class. You are also invited to our monthly ‘Stay and Play’ session which will run (9am -10am) the first Friday of every month starting in October. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns at any time, we will be available from 8:40 each morning, please pop into school earlier or telephone the office. All the staff are here to ensure that every day is a wonderful day for your child, roll on 2017/ 18 – this year is going to be very exciting!

We are looking forward to getting to know you all. Thank you for all your support – it’s appreciated.

WELCOME TO RECEPTION 2

Hello! We are Squirrels. Some of us joined Nursery in the previous academic year. The rest became pupils of Holy Cross and All Saints last September. Since then, we have formed a lot of friendships and learnt a lot of new things. So far we have studied the following topics: All about Me, Traditional Tales, Superheroes and Life cycles. At the moment we are exploring different means of Transport and we are really looking forward to our trip, where we will get to go on a steam train!

When we do wonderful work, look after our classroom, do homework on time and help others, we are rewarded by points called Dojos. We are divided into four houses: Saturn, Mars, Jupiter and Venus. Every Friday, Mrs Bell announces the winning house and names a person from every class that has collected the most Dojos for their house. At the end of every term, children from the winning house get to wear their own clothes!

Since September, we showed a lot of Growth Mindset while discovering our new talents and skills. We like cycling and learning about new cultures. We were even lucky to have been visited by a teacher from France, who taught us some French. Some of us already know who they are going to be in the future. Our little promising architects can build anything- starting from the Evil Pea Trap, through Proton Pack for ghosts and finishing on fantastic model castles. Some want to be teachers and have already started their work experience! We are also very spiritual and we talk to God too. But most of all, we love to have fun! Have a look at what we have been up to so far.

If you want to speak to our teacher, Miss Tkacz, you can email her on katarzyna.tkacz@salford.gov.uk

We know how to tell a story without any pictures!
